Legal Internet Marketing

Legal Web Directories

Getting visitors to your website from the Internet is done in a variety of ways including legal directories such as AVVO, Lawyers.com, Law Firm Directory and a variety of other free and paid lawyer directories. LAWYER DIRECTORIES There are many different types of lawyer directories including AVVO, Lawyers.com, Law Firm Directory and many other.  Some offer free listings and others offer paid listings.  Some work better then others, meaning some drive more focused and qualified traffic to your site on a consistent basis. Some listings are free, others are very expensive.  We make sure you get the most value for your dollar by listing your site in the directories that will drive the most focused and qualified traffic to your web site. Getting links from any other site that has a similar theme to your site can be valuable for organic search engine purposes if the linking site is also well linked and ranked. Some directories provide a good link, while others don’t provide any value at all. Sometimes the value a link provides is worth the listing fee alone because it can help your legal site’s link popularity score. Then if your site is also optimized, it can lead to better overall search engine listings. If it also can drive traffic to your site from the directory, then it really is a good value. We will list your web site in our legal directory and a number of other top free legal directories. We then will devise a legal directory strategy for the client and take care of listing the site with premium legal directories in the appropriate legal categories. Lawyers List Your Site in Legal Directories

One of the many things you have to do in order to get your site well ranked at the search engines is to get links from other well established sites, especially legal sites that are focused on your legal practice area such as DUI, Personal Injury, Tax Law, etc. Links from other sites are one of the many things that make up how your site is indexed by Google and a pretty important one.  Google looks at links to your sites like Votes for your site, the more votes you get and more importantly the quality of those votes, can go a long way in determining where your site gets ranked in the search engines. Getting links from legal directories can be one way to obtain a quality backlink to your site, especially if the site your getting the link from is an older well established site and the real key is that the link is a FOLLOW link, versus a NO Follow link. A No Follow link will tell Google to basically not count the link. Another factor to consider when listing with a legal directory, is where your placed and how much traffic that directory gets per month.   Yet even if you just get 10 visitors a month from the directory, it can be worth it, especially combined with the fact you can also get a quality link to your site. There are many different legal directories out there. I use a variety of different legal directories for my clients. Some of the ones I use are: –   Law Firm Directory – List your legal site for as low as $20 per month or $250 for the year. Premium listings are $995 for the year. –  Personal Injury Directory – List your personal injury or accident lawyer site here. –  Washlaw Legal Directory – Free .EDU Link from lawyer directory. –  DUI Lawyer Directory – Get your DUI Attorney site listed. Updated Legal Design & SEO = Top Google Results = New Clients

I blogged a couple weeks back about the first updated site we launchedfor Tax Attorney Ken Sheppard and I said I would be blogging soon about the Top Google Search rankings the site was going to soon have.  I didnt think it would be this soon! Sometimes you have to start over with a site to get the best possible results at the search engines.  In this case we moved the site to a new webhost, created a search engine friendly design with an additional 15 pages of optimized content and fully optimized the site for the search engines.  Just two weeks ago the site could not be found for any keywords, now the site is #1 for Ohio Tax Lawyer, #1 for Ohio Tax Attorney and its basically in the top 10 for all keywords related to Ohio Tax. Its even in the top 10 for national tax keywords such as irs tax attorneys and tax lawyers. These are harder keywords to get ranked for because your competing against everyone, not just attorneys in Ohio. This site is still not 100% done and we are adding more content to the site daily.  No coincidence that the traffic over the last week has more then tripled.  I talked with the client today and he told me he got a high number of calls this week and signed up a few new clients as a result.  So already not even before the site is done, it pays off bigtime with new clients!   Plus he has a better looking site that is easier to navigate, has more content and is ranked in the top 10 for all his keywords, how is every lawyer not doing this? It works!!

Good Organic Search Rankings= More Visitors = More Clients

"ORGANIC" SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION VS. PAY PER CLICKIts important to know the difference between organic SEO and Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing. Organic SEO is the process of getting your site listed in Google’s and other search engine’s main search index and coming up in the free or organic Search Engine results, located on the left side of the screen. Pay Per Click is basically buying the rankings for keywords and bidding to rank higher then other sites, these PPC results come up usually on the right side of the screen under "sponsored listings". Anyone can get their site listed in the PPC’s by simply paying for it, but getting organic listings takes time and effort. Most studies show that people prefer to click organic listings because they are more trustworthy, plus the nice thing about them is that you don’t have to pay a per click fee, which can sometimes be over $10 per click. BENEFITS OF ORGANIC SEOSEO can help place your web site among the top search engine results for a particular search, which will lead users looking for your firm’s practice area to your web site. This is a good way to establish your web presence and gain a solid flow of traffic to your site,  which can lead to new clients. Each search engine has a different set of rules as to how they rank web sites. Among other things, SEO involves Keyword Research to find all the possible key phrases people might use to locate your legal web site. Then its a matter of creating the optimized code for each page within the site and optimizing other key elements of the web site to make the site search engine friendly and ready. Once the site is optimized, then its a matter of submitting the site to the top search engines and directories.  Obtaining links from other quality web sites is the key to building your site’s Link Popularity score, which is a VERY important factor when search engines such as Google rank your web site. A combination of all these things will get your site listed at the search engines and get people visiting your site. See some of the results we have had in the organic search engine listings for some of our legal clients.

Getting The Right Kind of Links to your Site

Its important that you have other websites that links to your legal site. Yet it’s not the number of links you get but the quality of the links.  Getting one link from a high ranking well ranked site is much better then getting a 100 links from link farms, sites that have nothing to do with your site or sites that have no existing search engine rankings. Getting links from established directories can be very valuable and are considered high quality valuablelinks. Links from the Yahoo directory, the Open Directory, .EDU sites and other business and legal directories can be very valuable in your overall search engine marketing plan.  Contact us today for more information.

Can Subdomains Violate a Trademark?

Article from ClickZ about a lawsuit involving how far trademark infringement can go when applied to a subdomain. A lawsuit that had the potential to define how far trademark infringement can go when applied to subdomains has been settled out of court. The lawsuit was filed by California non-profit religious organization Jews for Jesus against Google in response to a blogger who set up a blog critical of the group at jewsforjesus.blogspot.com. According to attorney and Santa Clara University law professor Eric Goldman, the case could have set some precedent about third-level subdomains (like the "blog" part of http://blog.clickz.com). While trademark law has been shown to apply to a regular domain name, it has not yet been applied to third-level ones, and it’s not clear that it would apply, he said. It would also help define Google’s responsibility in what subdomains it allows to be registered. The case was settled by Jews for Jesus and the blogger, who transferred the site over to them. Since the issues were never decided by a judge, the world will have to wait for the next lawsuit to find the answers to those questions.
